Writhlington climbing wall is a Lottery funded facility. It is the only indoor climbing centre in the area serving both the local populations of Radstock and Midsomer Norton as well as Warminster, Westbury, Frome, Trowbridge, Wells and Bath. It is an 8 meter high, 5 top rope and 12 auto belay lines equipped with quick draws for lead climbing. There are 50 plus climbing routes ranging from Grade 4 (beginner) to 7A+ (advanced). Grading is very subjective and is therefore provided as a guide only. Grading can be different between indoor climbing centres.
Lead climbing is not permitted on our climbing wall at any time.
We use professional and experienced route setters to set challenging, exciting and varied routes for beginners right through to experienced climbers. 25 of our 50 routes are changed every 6 months, guaranteeing 50 new routes every year!
The next route change (25 new routes) is booked for Monday 26th & Tuesday 27th November 2018
The climbing wall is open for unsupervised climbing on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 6.30pm – 10.00pm, Saturday mornings from 9am – 11am and Sunday mornings 9.00am – 11.00am. These sessions are all suitable for Auto Belay (Clip and Climb). Top Rope climbing is unavailable on Sunday mornings. Children aged 5 – 17 MUST be accompanied and signed in by a registered adult (18 or over) when attending an open session. A registration form will need to be completed for all climbers. Children under the age of 11 must be accompanied to their sports lesson by their parent or guardian. Children attending lessons will not be released from our care in the absence of their parent or guardian; we would therefore strongly advise that you remain on site incase of any emergency so we can contact you quickly and that you arrive at least 5 minutes prior to the end of your child’s lesson.
Registered users for auto belays can sign in a maximum of 2 under 18 guests per visit. Over 18 guests can come to open sessions and be registered for auto belay use.
